Fitting finale caps off memorable season
The 2022/23 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship reached its conclusion with the 2023 Hankook London E-Prix on 29 & 30 July on a weekend that saw the best of Britain, as Jake Dennis was crowned the first ever British drivers’ champion, and Envision Racing became the first British team champion.
Having worked with Formula E since 2017, we were heavily involved once again as the all-electric-series returned to London, with teams running the World Championship’s UK and French PR, as well as looking after Saudia’s global partnership with Formula E.
The PR teams helped promote the World Championship by working on several initiatives during race week – including a breakfast event with drivers and journalists in attendance and a media day with Dennis. We ensured lots of noise by landing coverage in BBC Breakfast, BBC Sport, ITV Central, The Sun, The Sunday Times, The Daily Mirror, Reuters, The Independent, City AM, ESPN and many more across the week in the UK, as well as the likes of Le Figaro, Sports Orange, L’Equipe and Sciences & Avenir in France.
The activity didn’t stop there, with fellow CSM client, Chris Robshaw, coming down to the track at the ExCeL Centre in East London. Excitingly, we also played a part in a new World Record by amplifying the news that a ground-breaking Formula E car driven by McLaren’s Jake Hughes had broken the indoor land-speed record.
Our London and Middle East teams also combined for a magnificent show of professionalism and quality on behalf of client, Saudia. Saudia’s presence at the event was evident through their innovative Discover-E zone. Designed using ‘Airclad’ technology by our dedicated Live team, the SAUDIA Discover-E Zone was created using lightweight, sustainable materials and has been used all around the world. Its digital interior includes interactive experiences which aims to bring fans closer to the sport they love, mirroring Saudia’s online partnerships hub built by our Digital & Data team, which you can see here.
Over 2,500 fans attending the London E-Prix experienced everything from educational games to engaging competitions including Saudia’s Global Flying Lap challenge, the ReGen3rate simulator and strike a pose activation with global ambassador, Stoffel Vandoorne. In the build up to race week, a geo-targeted paid social campaign promoted Saudia’s partnerships hub and season competition to win the ultimate Formula E experience which saw over 10,000 fans entering to win and nearly 25,000 accessing the site. What a way to end the season!
As with each race throughout the season, our Live team was also responsible for the signage, wayfinding trackside branding, media backdrops, bespoke installations and hospitality fitouts, which ensured the Eprix looked spectacular for fans both on-site and tuning in from home. The weekend brought an end to another fantastic Formula E season, with CSM at the centre of it all.
