Launch Day in London
In January, Formula E announced a major story for UK motorsport fans as Channel 4 was confirmed as the exclusive free-to-air TV home for the all-electric racing series in a multi-year broadcast agreement, starting with the season eight opener in Saudi Arabia. The new deal results in more races on free-to-air TV in the UK than in any previous Formula E season.
Our role was particularly pertinent, with members from both our Formula E team and the Jaguar TCS Racing team joining forces to launch the announcement with a photocall at the old Channel 4 offices on Horseferry Road. This featured the Gen2 Championship car, Jaguar’s own show car and its driver Sam Bird, as well as Formula E presenters Vernon Kay and Nicki Shields. This was followed by a photoshoot and Channel 4 content capture in the lobby of our own offices at Greencoat Place.
Vernon Kay and Formula E deputy CEO Alberto Longo then took part in a media breakfast at Soho Works attended by a host of top tier motorsport and lifestyle media titles including The Independent, The Daily Mirror, The Daily Mail, Forbes and The Sun TV Magazine to officially announce the news.
Every race in the Championship’s 16-race calendar will be aired live on All 4 and Channel 4, or the network’s well-established YouTube page, Channel 4 Sport, whilst highlights will also be available across the different platforms.
In addition, the new qualifying format, featuring all 22 drivers engaged in head-to-head knockout Duels will be available live before every E-Prix on the YouTube channel.
